What is lead masks case?

The lead masks case, also known as the "O Caso das Máscaras de Chumbo" in Portuguese, is a mysterious and unsolved case that took place in Brazil in August 1966. The case involves the deaths of two electronics technicians, Manuel Pereira da Cruz and Miguel José Viana, who were found on Vintém Hill in Niterói, Brazil.

The two men were discovered wearing formal suits and lead masks over their eyes. They were also found with a notebook that contained cryptic messages, such as "16:30 be at agreed place, 18:30 swallow capsules, after effect protect metals wait for mask signal."

The case took a bizarre turn when investigators found out that the men had recently purchased waterproof coats and a bottle of water, leading to speculation that they may have been planning to meet someone on the hill and engage in some sort of ritual involving the consumption of psychotropic drugs.

Despite extensive investigations, including interviews with witnesses and the analysis of the men's belongings, the case remains unsolved. The motive behind their deaths and the meaning of the cryptic messages found in their notebook continue to perplex researchers and investigators. The lead masks case remains one of the most puzzling mysteries in Brazilian criminal history.
